Thursday 21st July

1 August 2016

This morning I carried on to complete all of my OCN work and filled up, edited and retyped blogs that needed a bit of tweaking.

Wednesday 20th July

This morning and all day with little work to do, it was cracking down time on OCNs and a pretty relaxing day…Thankfully and I actually feel that we all needed a breather after the frustrating past 5 weeks coming to an end.

Tuesday 19th July

Today was all go! Catherine and Stephanie spent most of their time down in the studio recording the script for the broadcast to be aired whilst everyone up stairs was sticking to their roles also. I was the only member of the news team/interviewer in today so I didn’t have very much I could do never mind what I did complete. I was writing tweets for the broadcast, myself and others are happy that they will suit well too.

Monday 18th July

Back to cool and this morning was tense trying to complete the broadcast and finish of interviews that needed to be done, I had one with Malachai O`Hara from the rainbow project that is also in a same sex relationship. Malachai was a great spokesperson and gave us a lot of useful information that will contribute nicely to our broadcast because of professional and personal views. We recorded more opinions of ourselves to be complete as a vox pop. The rest of the day I had free time so I helped in between other roles amongst our groups and we have made so much progress in so little time. I’m so proud of everyone.

Friday 8th July

Today Steph had an interview over the phone with Guy Spence and how he felt being a well-known young person in Northern Ireland and the struggles faced to become successful as part of the youth here. I, myself had an interview with a friend of mine, Jordan Neill from my local mission hall, Belfast City Mission and he gave a religious view, not a personal view on same sex marriage and he had a lot of good thoughts on this topic without being disrespectful or rude to homosexual, bisexual or lesbian people. After these today, it was very relaxed as we get off for one week, and that was the day in a nut shell.

Thursday 7th July

This morning Marie Wright from Daisy project on Mental health and the support offered by Daisy as an organisation, Bridget interviewed her but I was asked to assist during the interview because of a slight language barrier. Bridget did quite well! To pass time until my next interviewee coming in at 4, I helped with scripting and further research into the broadcast. I then had an interview with Lynda Bryans, a past television news presenter on her own experience with mental health and the battles she has overcome with her. A great interviewee! And a wonderful, strong woman. I enjoyed interviewing her most of today, she has been an eye opener for me today and I thank her for that.

Wednesday 6th July

I was interviewed this morning by Conor, while doing this I got quite emotional but I’m really happy with what information I was able to give and I’m quite proud to have been able to express this openly and to have an input in the broadcast that may influence others. Ryan Quinn came in to be interviewed by myself, I got a lot of relevant information on his journey with mental health, he was a brilliant interviewee. The rest of the day I spent researching some more and looking at the legalities of same sex marriage and abortion.

Tuesday 5th July

We got some re-recording done for vox pops, Lee and Steph started editing what they could. I was researching potential interviewees and myself and Catherine continued getting in contact with other people we could get in to interview.

Monday 4th July

Today we all split into our broadcast roles and groups, we were confirming interview questions, I got typing everything up. We got recording questions to put together in vox pops and myself and Catherine stated making contact with potential interviewees. One definite booking with Mary Ellen Campbell. Progress has really begun now. Time to get down to work.

Thursday 30th June-Friday 1st July

Rebecca is back!! And we are cracking down on this broadcast, its all go!!

Monday 27th-Wednesday 29th June

All OCN Work and activities that a peer educator may use

Thursday 23rd June

The main man, David spoke to us about marketing the station and set a task for us. I was placed with Chris Gilmore and we looked at the advertising mediums used by BBC Iplayer. This is a different way to look at advertising and what they do to capture an audience. We got to voice recording testing and that gave myself and Lee a bit of a giggle, loved hearing our voices. Brilliant!

Wednesday 22nd June

Jordan Moates had a chat with us today about our broadcast topics and how to approach them sensitivity as they are very controversial topics. He also talked about his job in the news room and its difficulties with always having to be on top of the game as there is always something new happening in the news.
John Rosborough followed in after lunch to tell us about the history of radio. I really began to see the development that has happened over time and the influence it has had on each generation. This talk today with John gave me a lot of insight on to how times have changed and how we need to change with it.

Tuesday 21st June

Keith Law from the scripting department came to give us an insight on how advertisements are made, worded and the voices used to make it real and relatable. David Corscadden showed us how the recording and editing works and all that goes on behind it every time something is broadcast or created, as well as all of the technology involved with it. The day finished off with a little more from Jonny Seeds to finish on a high.

Monday 20th June

Mark Mahaffey came in today to talk to us about his work and where he started his career, he is “the big boss”, manager and director in charge.
Darren from cash for kids then followed in after to tell us what they do as a charity for fundraising and involving the public with the work they do.
We were split into 2 groups and the group I was placed in went down stairs first to William and he gave us an engineering tour/brief to see how things work behind the scenes, the core of the radio station.
When we were finished with William we headed back up stairs and swapped activities with the other group for wreck a decks with Jonny Seeds. Everyone got involved, it was great fun and I absolutely loved it! It was nice to see everyone up and giving it their all. A great way to end the day!:)

20th june

30 June 2016

Just back at cool and Darren from cash for kids came in to speak to us about cash for kids and what they do, how they do it and what helps them to achieve their goals. We went down to William that operates the whole sha-bangg!! Telling us about the responsibilities he has, the technology involved and the broadcasting that wouldn’t go ahead if William weren’t there. The one thing everyone has been looking forward to wreck a decks with Jonny Seeds!! Brilliant day and it was good to learn to but let loose alittle bit.

Tuesday 31st

First day off the week due to bank holiday Monday… well earned that extra day!
So this morning was all about getting down and stuck in to our blogs and getting our bios done so they could then be put up live on the cool choices web page and it’s all in the process of waiting for the approval of David. All day heads were down to get our broadcast subject agreed and prepared in more detail, a few debates struck a bit of tension but that’s only the beginning because this is how we get our opinions out and in the open without violence. Our broadcast subject and storyboard preparation were the main focus of today so we focused on getting that done, I think we are on track for getting the storyboard at least started if not finished within the next few weeks at cool academy. I’m quite proud of the progress made today by the whole group… Keep moving forward.

Friday 27th

Today we were researching more on what to do for our group broadcast and how to go about it, we listened to the broadcast made by cohort 5 and took time to appreciate and take notes on how things were laid out and the wording of everything. Ross Tilly also came in to give us a bit more of an insight on the media side of things, including facts, figures and statistics. Myself and a few others were interested in what he had to say especially when we got talking about how to get more involved with the cool FM media pages, start 360 and cool choices pages. We had hoped to get building on our storyboard for the broadcast but unfortunately researching became interesting very quickly…next week comes quick, get building!

Thursday 26th

Richard Ross came in to speak to all of us at the academy about sales and sponsorship within the industry and outside. We were then given the challenge to present to Richard a sales pitch for the Euros to get everyone involved while Rebecca, Pete and Paulo are in France for Northern Ireland making it to the Euros. We then had to present our ideas to Richard later in the afternoon after preparing for the pitch. Myself, Pogey, Stephanie and Jamie were in a group together and our presentation was made up of 3 main ideas which were dummies guide to the Euros, Kiss a player and a FIFA, 5 aside mini Euros and our presentation won over the other 2 groups ideas…

Wednesday 25th

This morning Florence Ambrose came in to the cool academy to tell us more about what to do in case of an emergency and what are the main potential hazards within the different facilities, I can now say I have a better understanding on how things work while being in the cool FM facilities in the event of a fire or accident. Fire and safety precautions and dangers were made clear enough for everyone to understand. To finish off the day we added a few main pieces to our blogs to help keep on track before our cool choices goes online!

Tension..

Friday feeling in cool

4..What?!

3..Flying by now..

This morning Florence Ambrose came in to the cool academy to tell us more about what to do in case of an emergency and what are the main potential hazards within the different facilities, I can now say I have a better understanding on how things work while being in the cool FM facilities in the event of a fire or accident. Second day on the job..

Tuesday…First thing today we all got a glimpse at the professional photos taken on the photoshoot on the Friday previous to this week. The photographs looked well, I think it’s safe to say we are all very happy with the results. Luke Gill came in to show us the website for cool choices and taught us how to post, update and edit our own profiles and were given some pointers on how we would maybe like to show creativity, to stamp the URL as our own and I now think that how to access the Cool choices website has been made a lot clearer. We then gathered as a group and asked David question’s as we did yesterday to Jonny and Rebecca, I think we learned a lot about David and his journey, I can say that his journey is eye opening and unexpected.
The group participants and staff had given each of their own opinion as to what we should talk about for our group broadcast, idea’s lead to the likes of youth empowerment and stereotypes but these have yet to be confirmed. We got working together and let out some creative ideas, we are coming together as a nice wee family.

First Day…

Monday…I got into the cool academy after signing in and got to know the group so much better straight. Jumped right into learning more about the candidates and the staff I am going to be working alongside for the next 15 weeks, we did this by participating together in some icebreaker activities that had some random questions, some simple and some quite strange but informative.
All of cool choices participants and myself worked together to question Jonny Seedsy and Rebecca McKinney to get a better insight on their lives inside and out of Cool FM, I enjoyed learning more about everyone today. We got split into groups after lunch for a tour of the academy and Cool FM’s facilities. Enjoyed today…Thank you to the staff of Cool choices.
