This week down at Cool FM HQ I worked with Carl Kinsman the commercial producer for Cool FM and Downtown. He showed how he prepares jingles, records and edits his own voice and how for competitions he produces and creates the ad’s that go on air.
On Wednesday whilst working Sonya Mac we had our individual roles for our show and discussed and researched what agencies we should contact regarding our show which will be covering “Bereavement, Finance, Relationships and Depression.”
I attended an event called “Output” held at The Mac Belfast by “GeneratorNI” on Thursday. Attending the event were different agencies and people from different organisations and individuals from the music industry from Ireland north and south. We interviewed BBC Radio 6 DJ Tom Robinson and local singer Janet Devlin from the X Factor who is now venturing into her solo career and building on her upcoming tour.
On closing we worked Jordan Moates the news reporter for Cool FM and Downtown and were discussing Road Safety and the amount of deaths that have occured in Northern Ireland this year which stands at 65. As a team we discussed a future radio advert regarding road awareness and what the best way of getting a clear cut effective message across would be.
On closing I want to say again how I have been enjoying the course and how am I looking forward to the broadcast and how we as a team will progress and make it sound the best it can be.

Moving on from the last update as a group we have started to begin our Open College Network Certificate (OCN) in Peer Education. Holding open discussions regarding what Peer Education entails such as skills and qualities.
Paul Kennedy “PK” as he is notably known came and spoke to the group about his career within the industry over the past 20 years. The changes within radio and the industry as well the specific approach regarding what music goes on air.
On closing I can say how I am very much so looking forward to the rest of the course and learning the in’s and out’s within Cool FM and Downtown and making a lasting impact on the people within the stations.

So after the first week of Cool Choices it is safe to say I cannot wait to get stuck in and really get my head into the course. As a massive music lover and DJ myself working alongside Cool FM is definitely something that I feel very excited about and passionate. Getting a tour of the station was fantastic and meeting everyone within Cool FM from Stella in the café, to Dessy who drives the Cool bus was a great way of embracing the vibe, atmosphere and uniqueness of what Cool FM is all about.
At this present time in my life I do not have a clue what I want or intend to do for the rest of my life. Whether it be travelling the world DJing, presenting TV or radio or working with young people I know the Cool Choices programme will be an excellent stepping stone for whatever future field I venture into.
